Local art consulting and curation firm NINE dot ARTS has decided to build on the global movement of public displays of the phrase “Andrà Tutto Bene” (“everything is going to be okay”). The organization will be running a contest starting May 15th through July 15th and offering participating artists individual $250 microgrants. Simply post your art on display to Instagram, tag @andratuttobenneusa, and 30 randomly selected winners will receive funds through Venmo.

Englewood’s Museum of Outdoor Arts, which had been temporarily closed to the public, is set to reopen this Monday, June 1st. Additionally, their Robert Rauschenberg exhibition, which originally was set to close June 13th, will now stay on view through March 20, 2021. Starting today, restaurants in Colorado can officially resume in-person service. Guidelines for reopening issued by Governor Polis include operation at 50 percent capacity, 6 foot distance between tables, limited party sizes to eight people or less, mandatory face coverings, and sanitizing tables in between parties. While the news is positive for many restaurants eager to resume business, for others the safety restrictions, especially regarding capacity, still make reopening financially unfeasible.

With the stay-at-home order lifted, the bulthaup team is excited to get back to business. They are now offering in-person appointments with protocols in place for social distancing, mask-wearing, and sanitization of all surfaces. However, virtual appointments and showroom tours as well as sanitized samples via curbside pick-up or delivery will continue to be available.

In response to the safety needs of the new workplace, Milliken has released a new carpet collection to define boundaries, direct traffic, and promote a spirit of positivity and sense of security. Social Factor, as the collection is named, is available in five different tile styles ranging from graffiti-like prints to striped panels with icons such as arrows, footsteps, and hand-washing reminders.

At the onset of the pandemic, when more and more people started working from home, interest in office listings and leases dropped significantly. However, a recent survey conducted by real estate websites CommercialCafe and PropertyShark suggests that the market may be on track for a rebound. When asked about the current crisis’ effect on their office space searches, a large percentage of the survey’s over 1,000 respondents reported being ready to commit to a lease when they find the right space.

Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan is finding a way for us to stay together during these long periods of social isolation with his new series ‘Bedtime Stories,’ presented by the New Museum in New York. Cattelan has enlisted friends, fellow artists, and performers to read a sentence, passage, or chapter from a favorite book, bringing a veritable who’s who of the contemporary art and cultural world into the intimacy of your own home. Earlier this month, Downtown Denver Partnership issued a letter to Mayor Michael Hancock asking his administration to consider rapid activation of commercial streets to benefit reopening businesses. The City and County of Denver has heeded their proposal and is now creating a temporary program for restaurants, bars, and other businesses to operate in the outdoor setting adjacent to their businesses. Official rules and regulations are still in development, but to gauge interest Denver has created a webpage for businesses to submit outdoor expansion proposals for the city to review.

New font GROUP delivers on its aim to be one of the craziest typeface ever. Organized by designer Raissa Pardini, 37 creatives each contributed a character or two in their own style to the project, purposefully avoiding designs inspired by the virus to keep things positive. And, the best part? All profits will be donated to the World Health Organization.

This Friday, join the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) and AIA Colorado at 4:30pm for a free talk with architect and artist Aaron Jones about his future large-scale installation at the museum’s InsideOut exhibition platform. The Denver Art Museum is taking their quarterly “Untitled: Creative Fusions” event online with live-streaming May 15, 16, and 17 at 7pm on Facebook and Youtube. For those living in urban areas, it can be difficult to practice social distancing within densely-populated green spaces. This ‘Parc de la Distance’ designed by Austria-based Studio Precht offers one solution — a labyrinth-like park inspired by a human fingerprint. Visitors enter and exit through gateways that show whether a path is free to walk. Each lane is spaced nearly 8 feet apart by tall hedges, promoting social distancing and a sense of privacy within the heart of the city

In addition to developing products to help fight the coronavirus pandemic, some designers are imagining what we’ll need in the “new normal” of life post-coronavirus. Among those is Carlo Ratti Associati, whose Pura-Case concept is a portable wardrobe purifier that uses ozone to help remove most micro-organisms, bacteria, and viruses from clothes. Made from sustainable materials, the unit would also reduce the need for unnecessary washing, thus reducing water consumption.

Augmented Reality (AR) company and self-publishing platform ALL World has developed an open-access app for artists to share their art with the world and help find prospective buyers. The app allows users to see a piece of artwork at scale (or enlarged seemingly ad infinitum) in their own space or create their own “AR exhibition” by uploading a 3D version of their art to share with others.

A task force launched by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has developed the COVID-19 ArchMap to provide information on health care facilities around the world responding to the pandemic and support the development of design best practices for alternative care sites. Architects, designers, engineers and facility owners are asked to contribute current, in progress or completed COVID-19 projects—as well as collaborative initiatives addressing the pandemic—to be added to the map.

Japanese motion graphics designer Keisuke Terashima has used Augmented Reality (AR) technology to develop a virtual ruler that helps visual social distancing. Currently only available for iPhones with the latest OS, the ruler can be downloaded for free and then used in real-time to help you stay 6 feet apart from others in public spaces.
4/15/2020 – Knotty Tie Co.
Local tie, bow tie, and pocket square manufacturer, Knotty Tie Co. has retooled their facility to produce face masks for Colorado hospitals and the public. The company has partnered with the Colorado Hospital Association to create 25,000 reusable cotton masks for healthcare workers who are not caring for COVID-19 patients, and for hospitals who could otherwise not afford purchasing masks. They are also selling masks to the public, browse their collection or submit your own artwork for a custom design.

Are you in need of a face mask but lack the materials or know-how to make your own? The Industrial Design and Art Departments at Metropolitan State University have co-opted the use of their 3D printers to help address the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for people on the frontlines of the pandemic, namely face shields. At least 30 MSU Denver employees, students and alumni are currently involved in the effort and plan to send their products to the Health Center at Auraria and Make4Covid for further distribution.

CannonDesign, a Living-Centered Design firm whose Denver office recently moved to RiNo, has reimagined street signs in the age of social distance. A conceptual project, the firm created the series of photos as a love letter to the places we live, people we miss, and all that unites us.

With the majority of us making a shift from classrooms and offices to our living rooms, LVTD felt the need to utilize their skills and machinery to create accessible, functional furniture to ease the transition. The result was a low-cost, easy-to-assemble desk in sizes for both children and adults. The desks feature an integrated cable-pass, pencil storage pockets, and a recessed storage shelf.

Aaron Brown, professor of mechanical-engineering technology at MSU Denver, is part of a group that’s exploring an emergency solution to the projected 7,000 ventilator shortage in Colorado. By outfitting a snorkel mask with a 3D printed valve, the masks can connect to CPAP machines or directly to oxygen outlets in hospitals, freeing up ventilators for more severe patients.

The United Nations and The World Health Organization have initiated a Global Call Out To Creatives to submit informative visual content explaining how people can help slow the spread of coronavirus. Submissions will be accepted until April 9th and ten submissions will be chosen on the 22nd to be part of a public health campaign that will be activated all over the world.

Everlywell, a home testing company, has announced an upcoming home test that will determine if you have Coronavirus within 48 hours. Given the slow roll out of testing in the U.S., the new test could help diagnose more cases. Currently, supplies of the test are being allocated to hospitals and healthcare providers only, but sign up on their website to be notified when tests will be available to consumers.
