Where you live influences how you live. Denver-based Slate Real Estate Advisors is propelled by the knowledge that each property has its own story and believes that connecting people to the right spaces has a direct impact on how they live their lives.

We recently sat down with both Partners and Brokers at Slate, Stan Kniss and Jorgen Jensen, to learn more.

You describe yourselves as a creative real estate agency. Can you talk a little bit about what that means?

We see what we do as extending beyond the transactional nature of real estate. Real estate brokerage is the platform, however, we view our work as a creative production. The essential element to what we do can be found in identifying and creating an alignment of values between the property and the buyer. And how we get to that level of connection comes into play at many different levels, from developing an identity and positioning for a new listing or project, collaborating with photographers and interior stylists, to developing superior content and marketing strategies for one-of-a-kind properties.

According to your website, your ethos surrounds the importance of the built environment and its ability to shape us as people. Are there any notable houses that come to mind when you think of this ethos?

The Canvas Series of Homes (below) in Historic Whittier is a great example. These 7 homes were designed in the modernist tradition by Studio Limited and provide the perfect back drop for modern living in Denver. Each home was designed to be clean, simple and open, providing spaces that promote a sense of calmness and peace of mind. We believe our homes and interiors have the power to affect our well-being and encourage us to live a life well-lived.

What types of projects are you working on now?

We’re working on a couple exciting listings designed by Meridian 105 Architecture that we’re anxious to share with the Denver community, as well as a couple new construction condominium projects that we’ll bring to market late in 2020 or early 2021. Each of them will bring a new take on modern architecture in familiar ways. We’re also working on our own office space in a new location that will become our home for many years to come. It’s an opportunity for us to create a space that speaks directly to who we are and the things that we value. We can’t wait to share it with you when it’s completed!

What are you into at the moment? What’s inspiring you?

Since we started Slate Real Estate Advisors 4 years ago, we’ve been inspired by Fantastic Frank, a real estate brokerage primarily based in Stockholm and Berlin that puts an emphasis on quality design and aesthetics in all that they do. The Modern House and Aucoot in the UK are other examples of this type of creative approach to selling real estate that’s inspired our work in Denver. To see more of what’s inspiring us in the realms of real estate, architecture and design you can follow us at @slaterealestateadvisors.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to someone shopping for a new home or investment property?

I’d recommend being very mindful of the things that truly matter about the experience of a home. There will always be minor considerations that one may want to change, as those are extremely personal. However, we believe the real test is about how a place truly lives. Sometimes we talk about real estate in terms of “what it can do for you” as opposed to “what it says about you.” For us and our clients, we believe the goal is to be able to know immediately “yeah, this is me.”
