Taxi to Fashion

Fashion Denver hosts their Fall Fashion Market at the Taxi Building.

Fashion Denver is perpetually working to keep up-and-coming Denver designers busy. Brandi Shigley, owner and founder of Fashion Denver, has been producing fashion shows and seasonal fashion markets now for over five years. In this time, Shigley has brought together and helped to expose countless people in the interest of local fashion. One way Shigley keeps things fresh is by utilizing unique spaces for her market events. Most recently, Shigley teamed up with the Taxi Building in the RiNo Arts District for the Fall Fashion Market.

The Taxi Building is well known among the design community as a hub of creative offices, set in a retired taxi station. Some may know it as Taxi by Zeppelin, since Zeppelin Development Inc. is responsible for bringing the concept to life. Many appreciate the off beat character of the building complex, with taxi references present throughout, including an old-style taxi cab parked near the front entrance. Zeppelin’s office is filled with taxi miniatures and a bicycle printed with taxi graphics. Original yellow stripes still exist on the concrete floors. Smaller details, such as hand made tiles and spray painted sections add a sense of continuing collaboration from the people who work and utilize the Taxi Building on a regular basis.

For one Sunday afternoon, the hallways of the Taxi Building were transformed into what felt like an indoor Parsian market, with vendors selling their handmade goods. Partial proceeds went to benefit Youth Biz, a non-profit organization focused on the goal of advancing the social and economic empowerment of youth through a focus on business, academics and leadership.
