Michele Mosko Fine Art is pleased to announce that they are now the exclusive representative of Andrew Berg. Berg has established himself in a short time as a favorite painter in the region with several one person and group exhibitions to his credit in the past two years. Berg’s paintings are informed by a remarkable range of art-historical influences. One can easily discern in them a debt to abstract expressionism, color-field painting, surrealist automatism, as well as to the raw, brutish intensity of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat. While he has clearly absorbed the last 60 years of American art, Berg’s paintings are fresh and revelatory, remarkable in their capacity to express the inexpressible and to reconcile the opposing qualities of action and contemplation, raucous cacophony and deep silence.

The broad and dynamic strokes of his paintings reference abstract expressionism but his style is distinctly his own. A fresh palette of brilliant and richly layered colors creates a rhythm and balance to each work. Berg speaks of invoking a religious experience while creating his work and each painting has a deeper sensibility reflecting the sublimation of the painter to his art. Contradictory and yet complimentary, his uplifting, bold, but delicate, transparent expressions of color and gesture bolt from the surface to engage his viewer.

Simon Zalkind’s enthusiastic response to Mr. Berg’s work has resulted in the upcoming one-person exhibition of recent paintings entitled “Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin (The Writing on the Wall)”. This is a beautifully curated compilation of recent works installed to fill the entire Singer Gallery.
