Need help sifting through the many events in our fine city? Fret not! At Modern in Denver, we celebrate the best in architecture, interiors, art, design, and people. We like to think the three events below do just that. Enjoy, and we hope to see you around town.
WHAT: Lecture featuring Justin Ahrens
WHEN: Wednesday, April 16, networking 6-7 p.m., talk/Q&A 7-8:45 p.m.
WHERE: Denver Art Museum, Lewis I. Sharp Auditorium, 100 W. 14th Ave. Pkwy., Denver
WHY: In this AIGA speaker series, Justin Ahrens, Principal and Creative Director at Rule 29, will address how to build an inspired life that honors both your passions: a rewarding creative career and a joyful personal existence. Author of Life Kerning: Creative Ways to Fine Tune Your Perspective on Career and Life, Ahrens believes the solution is as simple as a process he’s dubbed “life kerning” — making small and deliberate adjustments to create a more balanced and meaningful existence. We like Ahrens for his commitment to help his fellow creative professionals and support important social causes.
WHAT: Lecture featuring architect David Adjaye
WHEN: Monday, April 21, reception 5:30 p.m., lecture 6 p.m.
WHERE: CU Denver College of Architecture and Planning, 1250 14th Street, 2nd Fl., Denver
WHY: David Adjaye, OBE, Principal Architect of Adjaye Associates, creates projects diverse in scale, audience, and geography. Not only do his projects span from Oslo to Nigeria, but Adjaye’s commitment to education extends to lecturing internationally, as well. He was was the Kenzo Tange Professor in Architecture at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, and in 2012, reached number one on the Guardian’s “Powerlist” of Britain’s most influential black people. Whew! We love that his work is right here in Denver at the Museum of Contemporary Art (above), and to top it off, the lecture is free.
WHAT: Design in Bloom
WHEN: Thursday, April 24, 5-8 p.m.
WHERE: Cluster Studios, 3881 Steele Street, Denver
WHY: This festive spring celebration hosted by Modern in Denver magazine will feature a collection of inspired floral arrangements created by some of Colorado’s top architects and designers, not to mention cocktails from Leopold Bros., floral-themed bites, and a peek at the new MINI hardtop. It’s shaping up to be a fun (and free!) event with Denver’s design community, but you must RSVP.
